INTRODUCTION

UTP Research Paper Conference 2012 is a student research paper contest/ presentation organized by Innovation and Design Club (IDEC) of UTP. The theme is Continuous Innovation as Catalyst for Sustainable Development. It is only open to undergraduates in Universiti Teknologi PETRONAS. This is where all the skills that they have learnt during lectures and labs are put to the test during the contest. The skills that they will be gaining during the contest are invaluable especially to inculcate life-long learning capabilities.


The purposes of this paper contest are as follows:
  • To encourage students to apply their knowledge to carry out research initiative.
  • To nurture a new generation that is able to contribute in Research and Development.

The objectives of this project are to:
  • Renew students' interest in research and development.
  • Change students' mindset towards developing research culture.
  • Serves as a foundation for this event to be held nationally and finally internationally.


ELIGIBILITY

This paper conference is open for undergraduate students only, preferably undergraduate students who are doing or have completed their Final Year Projects, and also students who have participated in SEDEX. Students who are doing UG research with a UTP Supervisor can also participate in this conference.

Continuous Innovation As Catalyst For Sustainable Development


HOW TO PARTICIPATE

You need to write a research paper on one of the listed CATEGORIES. The paper can be derived from your FYP or ETP. This event is divided into 2 parts, the submission of a duly completed research paper and presentation materials based on the paper. Participants are required to write a research paper, which should be submitted by 23 July 2012. After that, participants are required to present their research on the 10 August 2012 during the research paper conference. Participants would be judged based on their respective research papers and slide presentation by the panel of judges, appointed by each academic department.


REGISTRATION FORM

Registration forms can be obtained in the booth at Pocket D (5th June to 7th June) or online registration through our blogspot (urpc2012.blogspot.com). Alternatively, you can email to urpc2012@gmail.com to request for the registration form and the research paper template.

Submission of registration forms can be made at the booth, through the website or through urpc2012@gmail.com as well.

NOTE: Due date for registration if 16th July 2012.



RESEARCH PAPER

Research paper must be in softcopy.
Due date for submission of research paper is by 23 July 2012.


SLIDE PRESENTATION

It is compulsory for participants to present their research paper on the 10 July 2012. Further details regarding the presentation are as follow:

                        Venue : Undercroft (Seminar Rooms)
                        Time   : 9.00 am - 6.00 pm

Contestants should submit the soft copy of their slide presentation to urpc2012@gmail.com on the 30 July 2012.


RULES AND REGULATIONS FOR RESEARCH PAPER

  1. Only one author per paper is allowed to enter the competition. The rest of the team members are the contributors.
  2. Contributor(s) and supervisor(s) must be acknowledged in the paper. Contestant must state clearly the full name of the contributors.
  3. A full paper must be accompanied by the abstract, introduction, content of the paper (includes methodology), result, conclusion, acknowledgements and references.
  4. The paper should be typed in Times New Roman font 10 with single spacing.
  5. The full paper must not be less than 1000 works of text, plus as many diagrams and supporting illustrations as may be considered necessary to explain the subject matter.
  6. The full paper must not exceed 8000 words (not exceeding 8 pages).
  7. The paper must be prepared based on the template as provided by URPC.
  8. The paper must be written in English.


RULES AND REGULATIONS FOR SLIDE PRESENTATION

  1. Each presentation should be presented by the author who has signed up to take part in the competition.
  2. The slides must be in power point form. However, if participants have their own posters, they maybe use their posters.
  3. The maximum number of slides allowed is 20 slides.
  4. The slides should include abstract, introduction, methodology, result, conclusion and any diagram or supporting illustration.
  5. The presentation must not exceed 15 minutes.
  6. There will be a 5-minutes question and answer session for each presentation.
